Happiness is something you find within, even when everything around is going wrong. It simply means being content with what you have.
What are these simple secrets of happiness? How do we create happiness from within? Some people may have asked this question or have you? Well, the answer is subjective but others may define happiness based on material things like having a luxurious car, a beautiful house, a million dollars, or a grand vacation. If this is really your source of happiness, you are wrong. Material wealth won’t make you happy. It could be for a time but it is never a ticket to a lifetime of bliss.
I believe that each one of us desire to be happy. Happiness is a universal part of human nature but because of some unavoidable circumstances, you get disappointed, angry, afraid, and heartbroken. Sometimes, you think that life is unfair. Then, you start comparing ourselves to other people, why are they blessed financially, why are they healthy, why are they successful and so on and so forth. There are so many reasons not to be happy but overcoming unhappiness is the key to a better, happier life.
So how do you find happiness?
To be genuinely happy, here are some steps you have to do:
Love yourself. Embrace the unique YOU! You are amazing. God created each one with unique gifts and talents, endowed with inner beauty and strength. No matter what people may say about you, bear in mind that you have a sense of purpose and that you are significant. Stop comparing yourself with others. Focus on what you do have and not what you lack.
Be grateful. A sense of gratitude can give you joy and fulfillment. It is the power of positive thinking. Perhaps, it is the fastest and the easiest way to be happy. This way, you will learn to love other people as well. Instead of thinking negative about them, you feel thankful for them, simply for their presence and support.
Surround yourself with positive people. In other words, avoid negative people. Don’t let others affect you. You cannot please everyone no matter how hard you try. As what they say “do not let differences with people stop you from being content and happy”. Involve in organizations or ministries that can help you grow spiritually and emotionally, a community that will help you grow as an individual. Be actively involved in charitable works.
Live a healthy, balanced life. Ensure that you are keeping yourself in good health. Happy people are generally healthy people. Take good care of yourself. Exercise regularly, go for a long walk, meditate, and eat a well-balanced diet. Make sure to eliminate any unhealthy and unproductive habits. You need to make sure that you do not have the habits that could lead to unproductive lifestyle.
Smile more, laugh often. Laughter is one of the best ways to create true happiness. It is truly the best medicine. It relieves depression, fear, anxiety and anger. Stop worrying. All mental illness starts from worry. Who in the world by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Nobody!
Happiness is a choice and it is your responsibility to nurture your own happiness. If we are happy, the people around us will also feel the same. Happiness is something you find within, even when everything around is going wrong. It simply means being content with what you have. Instead of complaining about life being unfair, move on and have the right attitude. The bottom line is that our happiness is up to us.
