There are numbers of unproductive habits that we should eliminate, but we need to acknowledge them in order for us to take an action. Confronting ourselves is one of the things we avoid because it simply just ain’t fun to talk about ourselves, especially if it focuses on our negative attributes. Oftentimes, we love to brag about the nice things we have done, achievements we have reached, new stuff we have learned and the likes. But to truly become a mature individual worthy to be emulated, to face our own darkness is a must we seriously need to address. Why? It is because knowing our not-so-lovable traits are a helpful tool to determine whether or not we need to develop an area in our life that has been stagnant for a long time. But how do we know if we are stagnant? That we have been holding on to complacency for such a long time? That we have been comfortable with idleness? That we are already unproductive?
Here are some hints to know that you are developing unproductive habits:
1. YOU SETTLE FOR LESS.
If given a task, most people settle for less than the best. This attitude is a sure sign to know that stagnancy has overtaken you simply because aiming for excellence becomes alien to you. You no longer feel the need to impress yourself anymore because you think that your work is not fairly acknowledged by your boss, your family, your friends etc. One thing that a mature person has to understand is the fact that as we age, we must put in mind that our #1 audience must be our self. We must be impressed of the things that we do. How could you expect others to love what you do when you don’t love what you’re doing, anyway? Come to think of it.
2. YOU START CRITICIZING OR BLAMING OTHERS FOR EVERYTHING.
You feel like nothing is your fault and you’re always right. Everything wrong is because of others. Then you start letting them know, even non-verbally, how you feel about the situation. You feel like things are falling out of place because of other people’s negligence and you start questioning their capabilities. With these in mind, productivity has definitely caught you off guard.
3. YOU SKIP MEALS.
This might be the funniest hint you can get from this article, but this is certainly often true than not. There are days when you get so into what you are doing and you forget to eat! Well, you definitely need to sink in mind that without proper nutrition, you send your adrenal glands into overdrive, which depletes your energy and eventually leads to burn-out. Thus, making you unproductive.
4. TOO MUCH SLEEP.
Productivity starts by having enough strength throughout the day which you can get by getting enough sleep and nutrients. Therefore, you can never become productive if you spend too much time in between the sheets or doze off just whenever you feel it. If discipline has been robbed off from us then, no doubt we can ever distinguish between the right kind of sleep from the untimely, unhealthy kind of snoozing. You can never work on something productive if you spend more time with your eyes close. Come on, wake up now, sleepyhead!
